4 AI Browsers I Tested. Here's the One I Kept.
AI browsers promise to replace tabs, searches, and repetitive work with AI that understands what you're trying to accomplish. I spent a week using four of them to see if they're actually ready.

Some felt like Chrome with an AI sidebar. Others completely changed how I worked.
The biggest advantage wasn’t faster search. It was reducing context switching between tabs and AI tools.
AI browsers still aren’t perfect, but I think they’re one of the most exciting categories in AI today.
If I had to keep just one, I’d choose Comet.
Why I Wanted to Try AI Browsers
We’ve spent the last two years opening ChatGPT in one tab, Google in another, YouTube in a third, documentation in a fourth, and then copying information back and forth between all of them. Somewhere along the way, that became normal.
AI browsers are trying to solve that problem. Instead of treating AI like another website, they make it part of the browser itself. The browser doesn’t just display information anymore. It helps you understand it, compare it, summarize it, and increasingly, act on it.
So I decided to replace my normal browser for a week. Every article I read, every product I researched, every document I summarized, every email I drafted, and every technical problem I investigated happened inside one of four AI browsers.
The four I tested were Comet, Dia, Microsoft Edge with Copilot Mode, and Opera Neon.
Comet: The One That Changed How I Researched
Comet was the browser I kept coming back to. The biggest difference wasn’t that it answered questions well. Plenty of AI tools already do that. What impressed me was how naturally the AI became part of browsing. Instead of opening five different tabs to compare products or understand a technical topic, I could ask follow-up questions while staying inside the page I was already reading.
Long reports became easier to digest. Documentation became conversational. Research felt less like collecting links and more like having an analyst sitting beside me.
By the end of the week, I noticed something surprising. I wasn’t opening new tabs nearly as often because Comet was helping me connect information instead of making me search for it.
Dia: The Browser That Understands Context
Dia takes a slightly different approach. Instead of trying to replace search, it tries to understand everything happening in your browsing session. The AI remembers what you’ve been reading, references previous pages naturally, and feels much more aware of context than simply answering isolated questions.
That made it particularly good for longer research sessions. I could spend an hour reading different sources and then ask Dia to summarize the key arguments, highlight disagreements, or explain how one article related to another.
It’s not the browser I’d choose for quick tasks, but for knowledge work, I found the contextual awareness genuinely useful.
Microsoft Edge Copilot Mode: Surprisingly Practical
I didn’t expect Edge to surprise me. Most people already know it includes Copilot, but using it as my primary browser for several days made me appreciate how deeply Microsoft is integrating AI into everyday workflows.
Summarizing PDFs, comparing products, organizing research, drafting emails, and moving between Microsoft 365 applications all felt seamless. If your work already lives inside the Microsoft ecosystem, Edge becomes much more compelling than its reputation might suggest.
It didn’t feel revolutionary. It felt practical. And that’s probably exactly what many enterprise users want.
Opera Neon: A Glimpse of Where Browsers Are Going
Opera Neon felt the most experimental of the four.
Rather than simply helping me browse faster, it often felt like it wanted to complete the task for me. Planning trips, researching purchases, generating content, and handling repetitive work all pointed toward a future where browsers become execution environments instead of passive windows into the internet.
It’s clearly still early, and I occasionally found the experience inconsistent, but I came away thinking less about what Neon is today and more about what browsers could become over the next few years.
So Which One Would I Keep?
If I wanted to give the safest recommendation, I’d probably tell most people to stick with the browser they already know. AI browsers are still evolving, and for many users, traditional browsers remain perfectly capable. But that wasn’t really the point of this experiment. I wanted to find the browser that genuinely changed the way I worked, not just the one with the longest feature list.
By the end of the week, I found myself returning to Comet more than any of the others. It wasn’t because it had the most features or produced dramatically better AI responses. It was because it quietly changed my workflow. I spent less time searching, opened fewer tabs, copied far less information into separate AI tools, and spent more time actually completing the work I had started. That’s ultimately what I want AI to do. I don’t need it to constantly impress me with flashy features. I want it to quietly remove unnecessary work, and Comet did that better than any other browser I tested.
My Perspective
I don’t think AI browsers are competing with Chrome. I think they’re competing with the workflow we’ve all built around Chrome.
For years we’ve accepted that research means opening fifteen tabs, switching constantly between Google and ChatGPT, copying text into different tools, and manually connecting everything ourselves. AI browsers challenge that assumption.
Instead of helping us navigate the web, they’re starting to help us complete work on the web. I don’t think that’s a small feature. I think it’s the beginning of an entirely different way of browsing.
